Our Inspiration
Our host, Dr. Stella Safo, grew up inspired by the work of Octavia Butler. You can hear about the depth of her connection to the author’s writings on our “Story Behind” episode we’ve released.
While it is important to note that Octavia’s Cure at this time has no direct relationship to or endorsement from the estate of Octavia Butler, her works and portrayal of the world and the challenges in it are a big driver behind the conversation we’re hoping to have.

Our cover art is derived from the work of Nettrice Gaskins, who explored compositing in early testing of generative AI-based creative tools, including Deep Dream Generator among others.
Butler’s visage was particularly well captured in this final composite which was created across a number of tools and techniques, and is explored in depth on her Medium.
